Walking TOURS of Rome
1. Vatican City (Sistine Chapel, Museums and St. Peter’s Basilica)
The world’s smallest country, its largest church, the residence of the Popes and one of the most impressive collection of artworks all in just 110 acres. This tour includes the Sistine Chapel, the Raphael Rooms, priceless ancient sculptures that influenced Michelangelo’s style and the Galleries of the Tapestries and the Maps. Once outside the Museum we‘ll continue the tour inside St. Peter’s Church the same site where St Peter was martyred under Nero and where his body was buried. Here we will admire Michelangelo’s breathtaking Pietà, Bernini’s bronze canopy and much more.

Students must show studentcard with photo and be under 26 yrs.
Shoulders and knees must be covered, no shorts permitted inside the Basilica.
Closed Sunday and to be avoided on Saturdays.
2. Ancient City Tour (Colosseum, Forum and Pantheon)
This tour starts at the Colosseum where you will learn about the bloody games, the gladiators and the Emperors. Walk along the Via Sacra into the Forum, heart of the ancient city centre of Rome and of the world, two thousand years ago. See the Palatine Hill where the legendary founders of Rome, Romulus and Remus where suckled and saved by a she wolf. We’ll revive this ancient downtown and its monuments by showing you maps, pictures and explaining Roman daily life, customs and stories about the craziest Emperors. From the Forum we will take a short walk to the Pantheon, the most intact roman temple in the world today.

3. Piazzas and Fountains of Rome
An easy stroll through the Eternal city covering the most important Baroque squares and fountains. Take a breathtaking view of Rome from the top of the Spanish Steps, throw your three coins in the Trevi Fountain, see Rome’s largest monument nicknamed ‘the wedding cake’ in Piazza Venezia and admire the most perfect ancient dome of the Pantheon where also the painter Raphael is buried. We will visit a special church which houses famous paintings of the painter Caravaggio and then off to see Piazza Navona with Bernini’s fountain of the Four Rivers. This tour will end in Campo dei Fiori where you can also admire the nearby 16th century townpalace of the Farnese family, the same Pope who commissioned Michelangelo the Last Judgement in the Sistine Chapel.

4. Catacombs, Appian Way, Mouth of Truth, Circus Maximus, Moses of Michelangelo
There are olver 60 catacombs in Rome stretching for 300 miles under the city. These underground cemeteries were not where Christians hid during persecutions – this is a medieval urban legend which still confuses tourists today. These are indeed very peaceful and interesting archaeological sites to understand the origins of Christianity and their burial traditions. We will then continue on to see the ‘Queen of all roads’– the ancient Appian Way with the Tomb of a Roman noble lady called Cecilia Metella. On our way back we’ll drive past Circus Maximus, the Mouth of Truth and the Baths of Caracalla. Our last stop will be Michelangelo’s masterpiece, the ‘Moses’.

5.Ostia Antica.
If you don’t have time to drive down to Naples to see the ancient city of Pompeii or Herculaneum, you cannot miss the ancient roman port city of Ostia (only about 30 min drive from Rome) – the Mediterranean’s main port city which supplied Rome with grain, oil, wine, slaves and all that came from the provinces. This tour gives you a feel and understanding of the daily life of the Romans. Find out about their favourite plays at the Theatre, how they washed in the public Baths, how slaves heated the waters and saunas, where Roman ate, lived and did their business.

6. Tivoli - Hadrian’s Villa and Villa D’Este Hadrian’s Villa is almost an entire city on its own constructed and projected in the 2nd century A.D. by the Emperor Hadrian who was inspired by famous Greek and Egyptian monuments which he had visited during his numerous journeys through the Empire. We will take a walk through this huge archaeological park filled with centuries old olive trees. You will learn about Hadrian, an intelligent sovereign and a lovers of arts.
Villa d’Este and its gardens are considered as the most beautiful in Italy and perhaps in all Europe. Built by Cardinal Ippolito d’Este in 1555. Water is the villa’s main theme and it gushes out of an infinite series of fantastical fountains and pools. An amazing show of wealth that belonged not to a king, not to pope or duke but a cardinal, who had obviously high aspirations to become a pope... Its gardens will infact in later years inspire the French gardens of Versailles.

7. Florence IN ONE DAY!
This breathtaking Renaissance city is only 1.5 hours train ride from Rome. With an early departure from Rome and a guide that knows her way around, you’ll be able to get a real feel of it. First stop is the Duomo with Brunelleschi’s Dome, the Baptistery and Giotto’s Belltower. Then head to the Accademia to see Michelangelo’s most celebrated statue, the ‘David’. Once reached Piazza della Signoria you cannot miss the nearby Church of Santa Croce which houses the Tombs of Michelangelo and Galileo. Time permitting - some shopping in the markets might fit in!

Depart Rome with Eurostar Train 8 am arrive 9.30 – The return is up to clients if they want to have dinner in Florence and return with late train. Sites in Florence are all walking distance and no transportation is needed.
8. Ancient Port City POMPEI
Depart Rome with private transportation at 7.30 am to reach your guide at the archelogical site of Pompei by around 10am. This roman port city was buried and lost in history after the eruption of the nearby Vesuvius in 79 AD. You will be stepping into time – the homes, baths, shops, bakeries, theatre, temples are still decorated, frescoed and visible for tourists today. After a 2 hour tour, your driver will help you find a place for lunch and then return to Rome. You’ll be back in Rome by around 5pm, unless you want to drive down to Sorrento to have lunch and see the coast. In that case the return will be by 8pm.

9. Galleria Borghese
The ‘Baroque Villa’ of Europe, built in 1620 for cardinal Scipione Borghese, the favourite nephew of the ruling Pope Paul V. Learn about this extravagant patron of arts who lived like a prince and did almost anything to add famous works of art to his collection. Here you will admire the masterpieces of sculptors like Bernini as well as Canova’s famous neoclassical ‘Paolina Borghese’ – Napoleon’s sister. In the Pinacoteca we will admire masterpieces by Caravaggio, Raphael and Titian. This gallery will give you a feel how these noble families lived in Roman at the time.
